Laboratory Services

The Agency has a modern laboratory which provides laboratory services on behalf of the Government as well as commercial services for mineral explorers, miners, mineral traders, buyers and exporters.

TMAA Laboratory receives all sorts of mineral ores, concentrates, bullions, rock and soil samples from individuals as well as corporate entities to ascertain mineral contents.

TMAA employs the following procedures, either separately or in a combined package, to meet specific requirements:

3. Use of facilities, equipment, supplies and services that are appropriate to our work, and ensure that they are           functioning properly and meet required specifications;

4. Maintaining trained and appropriate supervised staff that demonstrate continuing proficiency to carry out                 assigned activities;

5. Producing competent results that are traceable and accorded with appropriate uncertainties;

6. Handling all samples, from acquisition to disposal, with adequate identification process that incorporates                 receipt, checking,  routing, storage and disposal; and

7. Maintaining all laboratory data and records generated in appropriate manner that is easily accessible.

7. Coloured Gemstones and Diamond Identification Report

Identification services will include testing to RI, SG, visual spectroscopy, fluorescence and inclusions on loose stones only.  The report will state whether the material is natural or synthetic. 

(Note: The report will not identify whether an identifiable treatment has been used to enhance its appearance, if the material is a simulant with no known counterpart, or if it has been assembled from two or more separate components).

8. Diamond Identification Report Identification services will be performed only on loose stones (minerals) and will include testing to hardness, density, SG, optical properties and Inclusions. TZS 40,000 (<=10 carats, TZS 10,000 for each additional of 5 carats)

Diamond Grading Report

Grading services will be performed only on loose stones and will include testing to determine whether such stones (minerals) are natural or synthetic. (Note: Grading services exclude testing to laser drilling, fracture filling, irradiation and heat treatments).
