Minerals Found in Tanzania

Gold ore at Bulyanhulu and Buzwagi Gold Mines is complex in nature. It consists of chalcopyrite, chalcocite, bornite and pyrite. Gold and silver are found embedded in pyrite and chalcopyrite and hence require specialized technology for recovery. The two mines apply two processing methods which are gravity (produces gold bars) and froth flotation (produces Copper Concentrate).

Copper Concentrate produced at Bulyanhulu and Buzwagi Gold Mines mainly comprise of the following major payable metals: copper (average assay 14%), gold (average assay 0.02%) and silver (average assay 0.015%), copper being in higher concentration than the rest, hence the product named Copper Concentrate.

Copper Concentrate from the two mines is normally transported to Japan, China and Germany for processing.

Copper, which is the main product of Copper Concentrate is mainly used in industrial uses, electrical uses, making of domestic utensils and in building of trams, lorries, cars and trains.
